In 2021, some clients left. I want to describe the reasons why we (specialists and agencies) lose clients or why they leave on their own.
1. For some reason
Such clients leave silently, "disappear" without shopify website design explanation. They simply stop getting in touch, and when you call, they say that "there is no budget/time/energy/mood right now" or "we'll think about it." A very careful refusal that you need to be able to understand.
What influenced it: unknown.
How to react: philosophically.
2. Dead end
One of my clients left because we bought absolutely all the traffic from both Google and Yandex, but there were no sales or calls.
In long conversations with the sales department, we came to the conclusion that the supply of our client and his competitors greatly exceeded the demand. We could not influence the situation from the advertising side. The client left.
What influenced: the market.
How to react: be sad and move on.
3. Review of policy
There are clients who honestly say: we decided to cut advertising costs/we want to change the contractor/the owner did not allocate a budget/we are reviewing brand promotion.
There is no need for comments here. One can only say "thank you for your honesty".
What influenced it: a decision from above.
How to react: nothing.
4. Our actions
This is the most difficult reason for clients to leave. It takes great courage to admit our mistakes and understand what our words and actions could have led to the end of cooperation.
Each of us has some unpleasant trait: someone has a principled attitude bordering on fanaticism. Another has a pessimistic attitude. A third has an inattention to details.
There are many reasons why we can be inconvenient to work with clients. Feedback is important to become better. And, of course, the ability to frustrate.
What influenced: ask colleagues/manager
How to react: give yourself a clear answer about what actions of ours caused the client to leave, and change something in your behavior.
5. Couldn't come to an agreement
What influenced: communication in "different languages".
How to react: learn to understand people.
Remember that it is impossible to please all clients, there will always be disagreements or conflicts. The point is how we get out of them and what conclusions we draw. Only this makes us better and allows us to grow above ourselves.
